Team Light Speed originated as a Race team in 1992 by Chris Limpin, Roland Sagmit’s cousin. At first the team was all Race but expanded their team to be Show cars also, as seen in the pervious article on Gary Villanueva. Team Light Speed’s fastest car is 12.1 second, an all motorcar. All of the team’s Show cars have a Playstation 2 system in them. The team tries to make an appearance at all the local car shows. As a group they hang out and have BBQs. I hope I’d get invited to the next one they have! (Hint hint) These car enthusiasts are all over Cali, from So-Cal to Nor-Cal and even as far as Las Vegas.
I wanted to see how fast 12 seconds really is but Gee and I was able to get the scoop on two other members of the team. Roland Sagmit, head of Team Light Speed San Jose and RJ. So, our mission began on a Sunday, we decided to hang out at Edlevin Park in Milpitas. Gee and I waited patiently for the team. Not too long, from a far we can hear the bumpin’ of their systems and the roar of their exhaust as they drove up to the park.
RJ has been part of the team since 2000. He had joined about the same time Gary did. He drives a 1993 baby blue w/platinum pearl tint Honda Prelude. He had joined Team Light Speed for his love of cars. “It’s a hobby!” RJ says with a smile. He has won three trophies so far. Congrats RJ for the trophies! He has black widow sideskirts, rear bumper and a skyline R-33 front. 17” Tenzo R shu-rims w/ Falken tires. RJs’ ride is show, so being a show car, he also has a Playstation 2 system hidden in the kick panel of his car. He also has a JVC Kamelon head unit, a Pioneer Digital E.Q and a 7” LCD screen. Not to mention a good sound system, three 10” JL audio W-6 subs, an Autotech amp, 450x4 Pioneer amp and MB quart mids and highs. RJ’s engine is basically stock but he does have an AEM cold air intake. He also has momo foot pedals and shift knob. He has big plans for the future. Some of his plans are to change the color of his car, get a custom widebody, get an airride system and trick out his doors. Can’t wait to see what his car looks like after everything!
Roland as I mention previously is the head of Team Light Speed San Jose and has been part of the team since 1998. He drives a 1988 orange w/ a gold pearl tint CRX. He became part of Team Light Speed because he enjoys fixing up cars. He has won 8 trophies so far at various car shows like AutoFest 2000, Extreme Limits and Import Vibes. Congrats Roland for the trophies! Some of the modifications Roland has done are changing the color of his car, an all-red taillight, fats blinkers, racing pedals and shift knob. And YES, Roland also has a Playstation 2 system with amps and subs. He even has a digital camera in his car; he’s ready to capture a Kodak moment anytime! Nah, it’s to take a picture of that one fine ass girl he sees checking out his ride! Hee hee. He also has a dancing strobe dome light, a Tacho meter and racing belts. Roland’s future plans include a new color for his car and tricked out doors, maybe Lamborghini or Delorian doors. Gee asked Roland “how does one get into Team Light Speed?” He answered with a big smile “Red Lobster!” So for the fellows out there, just buy Roland an eat-all-you-can shrimp plate at Red Lobster and you’re in! (Laughs) I’m down for Red Lobster myself! We’ll just have to wait and see what Roland decides to do next! The guys of Team Light Speed show much love and dedication for their rides. Thank you, Gary, RJ and Roland, for taking time out for the photo shoot.
